Kenneth Wyvill 1921 - 2001

Kenneth Wyvill

Kenneth Wyvill born 4 July1921 in Hornsey and died 12 March 2001.

He was the middle child of Percival and Florence Wyvill, elder brother Percival Leslie and younger sister Doreen Leonora.

He attended Stationers' Company's Foundation School in Hornsey which was a Grammar School.




R101 Airship

His first big adventure was 4th October 1930 (aged 9) when he climbed on to the rooftop at 1 Nelson Road, his parents house, to see His Majesty's Airship R101 flying over London heading for France. It crashed the next day Sunday 5th October killing 41 souls. (pictured flying over Crystal Palace London.)

He volunteered for the Royal Air Force in 1939, wanted to be a pilot but due to his poor colour vision had to enlist as an Airframe mechanic. He served in: Italy and Palestine and many other locations as ground crew working mainly on Spitfire and Hurricane aircraft. On Christmas day 1945 he was in Jerusalem.





After leaving the service he worked for the Sun Life Assurance Society in london and remained with the company until returement.

In December 1950 he married Ellen Louisa Walters and shortly after that Kenneth was transferred by his company to Glasgow in Scotlend. Christopher Ronald was born 1n 1951 and his sister Jennifer Ann in 1957. In 1959 the Wyvill's moved to Ayr Scotland and remained in the area untill hes death in 2001.

While in Ayr he was a keen curler and played for the Ayrshire Insurance Association for many years. He became a member or the Royal Air Force Association and was the local branch treasurer for several years he also was on the executive comitte for the Scottish Air Show. In the early 80's he joined the Rotary Club in Ayr and ultimately became President.

After his retirement his passion became reaserching the Wyvill family History and all the information on the Geneaology pages was created by him.
